Leo Beatty was a lifelong member of the Wakefield and District Water Polo League.  He was a national standard referee and between 1984 and 1990 he was Referees’ Coordinator for the former mens’ National League.  He was Yorkshire ASA President in 1993, 2003 and 2004, and in 1999 he was ASA North East Region President.

The winner in 2017 was Julie Hoyle of East Leeds SC.  The trophy is usually presented at the Yorkshire SA Masters Championships held in the following year.

The final positions at 31 December are shown in the table below.  It can be seen that Emma Wills of York City Baths Club was the runaway winner of the 2018 competition.  She amassed 183 points, setting one European Record and four British Records.

The competition for second place was very close, only two points separating Alistair Crawford, 2nd, and David Emerson, 3rd.  David’s two European Records at the Yorkshire SA Championships in May gave him a lead over Alistair which was finally overhauled with Alistair’s British Record at the National Masters Championships at Ponds Forge in October.
